FAQ
Why is my antivirus detecting your software as a threat/virus?
Please rest assured that our software is 100% safe and free of any malicious code. This detection is a classic "false positive." Our software uses advanced encryption, obfuscation, and proprietary security protocols designed to protect our intellectual property and secure the hardware-locked licensing system of the our devices. Because antivirus programs cannot scan the encrypted core of our application, they automatically flag it as suspicious or unknown. What should I do? To run the software correctly without interruptions, we highly recommend adding the installation folder or the executable file (.exe) to the Exclusion/Exception list of your specific antivirus software (such as Windows Defender, Avast, Kaspersky, etc.). If you need step-by-step guidance on how to add an exclusion, please visit our community forum or contact our technical support team.
I connected everything following the "Installation Instructions," but the screen stays black.
This is normal operation. After powering up, the display will show a quick LED blink but remains black by design to save power. Simply touch the screen to wake it up. If the display remains black after touching it, please check for any blinking LEDs on both the Controller and Display units. Verify all cabling and ensure the OBD plug is securely inserted. If the issue persists, contact us for assistance or visit our forum.
Every time I start the engine, StartDiag reboots.
During engine startup, there is typically a significant voltage drop that may fall below the minimum operating threshold for StartDiag. In these cases, both the Controller and Display will automatically reset and reboot. You may need to touch the display to turn the screen back on once the engine is running.
Can I write scripts using other text editors?
Absolutely. LUA scripts for StartDiag are standard text files with the .sds extension. You can use any text editor you prefer. However, using our StartDiagSuite provides specific tools to handle log files generated on the device and allows you to encrypt your scripts for added security.
Where is the OBD port located on my vehicle?
OBD port locations vary significantly between vehicle makes and models. We recommend checking your vehicle's owner manual or searching online for your specific model’s OBD-II port location.
Where can I find the product manuals?
It’s stored on the device SD card or you can download the manual in PDF format directly from this link: www.tomelectronics.it/downloadfiles/StartDiagUserGuide.pdf. (Note: A QR code directing to the manual is also included in the product packaging).
Is my vehicle compatible?
If your vehicle supports OBD-II, EOBD, or WWHOBD protocols (standard on most vehicles manufactured after 2008, and many earlier models), it is generally compatible with StartDiag.
Where is the microSD card located?
All StartDiag units are shipped with the microSD card already pre-inserted into the slot on the StartDiag Display unit.
